Caples Lake Campground

Campground is Closed


Fees are $24.00 per night for single family sites, with a maximum stay of 14 days.

All campsites are available on a first come basis. No reservations are available.

Sitting about 7,800 feet in elevation, Caples Lake Campground is located adjacent to Caples Lake on Highway 88, and has 34 sites available. The campground offers tent units with a spur length of 25' - 40' feet. Tent, trailer or R.V. sites are available with spur lengths of 25' - 40' feet. There are seven walk in campsites, and one double family site.

    Fishing:
    Rainbow trout are stocked by the Department of Fish & Game at Caples Lake. Although fishing is allowed year round, the lake is not accessible in the winter.

    Hiking:
    There is access to the Mokelumne Wilderness (permit is required for any overnight use year-round). Permits are available at Carson Pass Information Station, (summer only), Amador Ranger Station and the Eldorado Information Center. Check for any restrictions prior to planning your trip.     On site facilities:
    34 sites, vault toilets, fire rings, trash service, piped water.

    Seasonal Information:
    Normal services available early June through Mid-October. (Season length will depend on the weather.)

    Directions:
    Located 59 miles east of Jackson on Highway 88.

    Things You Should Know:

  • Sites are limited to a maximum of 2 vehicles and 6 people. (Additional fees are required for extra vehicles.)
  • Please contact Campground Host prior to setting up campsite.
  • Rules and regulations are posted at entrance of campground on information board. Camp host can also provide information.
  • Golden Age/Access passports are accepted.
  • Pets must be kept on a leash at all time. Maximum of 2 dogs allowed per site.
  • Campfires must be contained within the campfire ring.
  • Please only use dead and down fire wood for camp fires. (Some camp hosts provide firewood to purchase. Please contact host for details.)
  • Make sure your campfire is dead out before leaving. (Please "drown" campfire with water, do not use dirt.)
  • Check out time is 2:00 P.M.
